Buying a New Cooling System Unit vs. Having Yours Repaired

When you experience problems with your Cooling System and Heating Unit you are often faced with a decision to repair or replace it. Buying a new Cooling System can be a big decision and choosing to repair an older unit may not always be the best one. Many times older systems that require repair may be more costly in the long run than newer systems that consume less energy and normally pay for themselves over time. However, there are also times where simple repairs and maintenance is all that is needed to prolong the life of any system and a new install is not necessary. It is always our recommendation that you do your research and consult with a certified Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning expert before making an informed decision.

Not sure if you should repair or replace?

Well, consider this: if you're operating an inefficient system that breaks down a lot, it's likely that it's going to break down again. That means more expensive emergency service calls or possible damage to the other components of your Cooling System.

Efficiency Ratings and How They Effect You

The efficiency of Cooling Systems is often rated by the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) which is defined by the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute in its standard ARI 210=240, Performance Rating of Unitary Air-Conditioning and Air-Source Heat Pump Equipment. The higher the SEER rating of a unit, the more energy efficient it is. The SEER rating is the BTU of cooling output during a typical cooling-season divided by the total electric energy input in watt-hours during the same period.

Also consider the ongoing cost factor. You could save up to 60% on your energy bills with new high-efficiency equipment. You see, even if your Cooling System is only a few years old, it could be terribly inefficient by today's energy efficiency standards. Installing a new, high-efficiency cooling system can actually pay for itself in energy savings within a relatively short time.

At Total Comfort, Inc  our Air ConditioningTechnicians can provide a complete analysis of your current system in order to determine if repairs are needed or if the entire system needs to be replaced.
